Columbia University today conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy upon Mrs. Jacob Jofen, a mother of three children, for her thesis “Synchronic Description and Division of Eastern Yiddish Dialects.” Mrs. Jofen, who is 29 years old, has a fluent command of Latin, German, French, English, Hebrew, Yiddish, Icelandic, Gothic and Sanskrit. She came to the United States from Vienna in 1938 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College in 1943 and her Master’s degree from Brown University in 1945.
