A motion to reinstate seven members of the Jewish Labor Party who were recently expelled as a result of internal strife within the group was made today at the conference being held in Kfar Vitkin. The motion received only 99 votes from the 401 delegates attending the conference.
A proposal to refer the question of the reinstatement of the expelled members to a special committee received 203 votes. The opposition group today refused to participate in general debate at the conference until its seven adherents, who were ordered expelled by the party court after being charged with a breach of party discipline, are reinstated.
Aaron Zisling, one of the leaders of the opposition, issued a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today declaring that he is confident that the Jewish Labor Party will not split if the group led by Ben-Gurion, Shertok and Romez “will find common language” with the opposing section. Speakers of the Ben-Gurion group addressing today’s session of the conference all called for an effort to prevent the party’s dissolution.
