The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Austria is preparing for a referendum in the various districts in favor of a law against the schechita. the Jewish method of slaughtering animals.
The province of Voralberg intends to carry into effect a prohibition against the schechita, despite the fact that there is only a small Jewish population in the district.
This measure would deprive the Jews of Switzerland, where the schechita is prohibited, of the opportunity of obtaining Kosher meat from Voralberg, which is on the Austrian-Swiss border.
