Kit F. Clardy, who was the sole defender of the alien registration bill for the office of the attorney-general of Michigan, at the hearings before Judges Arthur C. Dennison, Ernest A. O’Brien and Charles C. Simons, on July 1, today carried out his threat to insist on the 15-day period to which he is legally entitled for an answer on the last two bills of complaint in behalf of Francesco Dimelgio and John Petrowski.
Mr. Clardy served notice on Theodore Levin, chief counsel for the opposition, to appear in court and to argue on the motion to dismiss these two bills of complaint. Mr. Levin did appear, but Mr. Clardy did not. Judge O’Brien stated from the bench that Mr. Clardy’s motion is automatically being taken under advisement, and in the event the judges will desire additional testimony they will then call for another hearing.
