Mr. Baker advocated rejection of the pact on the ground of Italy’s role in the Palestine troubles, which he said began with premier Mussolini’s preparations for the Abyssinian War. He pointed out that there was no specific pledge on Palestine in the agreement because Prime Minister Chamberlain could obtain only verbal assurances.

A Balfour Day meeting last night was addressed by Major H.A. Proctor, Conservative M.P.; John Rhys Davies, Laborite M.P.; Mrs. Edgar Dugdale, niece of the late Lord Balfour, and Berl Locker, Zionist labor leader.
