Mrs. Bertha B. Guggenheimer, widow of Max Guggenheimer of Lynchburg, Va., died Thursday night while on a visit in St. Paul, Minn. She was stricken while on a tour with Mrs. Irma Lindheim, President of Hadassah, the women’s Zionist organization of America.
Chief among Mrs. Guggenheimer’s many benefactions were her $50,000 endowment last Spring of a trust fund for the establishment of playgrounds in Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv and her establishment the previous Autumn of a playground in the old City of Jerusalem.
Mrs. Guggenheimer also endowed the Guggenheimer Fellowship at the Jewish Institute of Religion, which permits a student of the institute to visit Palestine each year. Rabbi Stephen S. Wise will conduct the funeral services today at the residence in Lynchburg, Va.
Ben Altheimer, philanthropist and originator of Bundle Day and of Flag Day in the schools and churches, was honored on his seventy-seventh birthday yesterday. Mr. Altheimer is president of the Men’s Club of Temple Beth-el, New York.
