Mrs. David Friedlaender, well known in the field of social service in this country, and for the past four years secretary of the United Jewish Campaign for Foreign Relief for Eastern Pennsylvania, has accepted the position of Director of the United Synagogue of America Committee of One Thousand, according to an announcement made by A. B. Cohen, national chairman of the committee.
The purpose of this Committee of One Thousand will be to study religious needs of the Jewish communities throughout the country, with special emphasis upon the smaller communities, most of whom have no organized activity. Mrs. Samuel Spiegel, national president of the Women’s League of the United Synagogue of America, is associate chairman of the Committee of One Thousand.
Mrs. Friedlaender has a long record of service in the various fields of Jewish endeavor in this country. Since 1917 she has been with the Central Relief Committee, a constituency of the Joint Distribution Committee, devoting the major portion of her time in the middle west, stimulating interest in the religious and cultural needs of the Jewish communities in Eastern Europe. A descendant of one of the oldest rabbinical families in Palestine, Mrs. Friedlaender has been active on behalf of the cultural and religious development of that country.
