Mrs. Leonard Ratner, Leader in Philanthropic Causes, Dies in Cleveland

Funeral services were held yesterday for Mrs. Leonard Ratner, a leader in national and local philanthropies and in civic causes, who died at 65 after a long illness. Services were conducted by Rabbi Armond E. Cohen at the Park Synagogue of which Mrs. Ratner had been a board member. Mr. Ratner is vice-president of the Jewish Community Federation here.

Born Lillian Bernstein, of a prominent Cleveland Jewish family, Mrs. Ratner was chairman of the women’s division of the national women’s executive committee of the United Jewish Appeal. She was the founder of the Park Synagogue’s day nursery and day camp and recently established the Lillian Ratner Montessori School. She was active in the Red Cross and other local civic and philanthropic activities and personally and through the family foundation assisted many young people financially to secure higher education.
