The secretariat of the Israeli Labor Party will meet this week to select a secretary-general to succeed Golda Meir, who declared over the weekend that her resignation from the party post was final. Her resignation has been accepted. Premier Levi Eshkol said, “We have spent much energy in trying to change her decision, but in vain.” A number of possible successors have been mentioned, including Finance Minister Pinhas Saphir.
