Premier Golda Meir sent today a telegram to the Zionist Organization of America convention in New York expressing the gratitude of her government and people for the role the ZOA plays in the struggle for peace in the Middle East. The telegram, which was read to the 1000 delegates, stated: “We know that your hearts are with us in our struggle for a peace which will spell the opening of a new epoch of cooperation in the Middle East marking the unqualified liquidation of the conflict which over decades has caused so much suffering and led to squandering of such vast resources. It is our historic obligation to our and future generations to insure that the nature and frontiers of peace be such as to indeed insure that never again will the tragic experiences of the past recur. In these days of peril and hope we know that ZOA will continue with its great tradition of seeking the welfare of Zion and the peace of Jerusalem. Warm greetings to the outgoing President Jacques Torczyner who has rendered such significant service and good wishes to his successor.”
