Official sources confirmed today that Premier Golda Meir has sent a message to the White House suggesting high level consultations on renewed shipments of American warplanes and military supplies to Israel. The sources, however, continued to deny press reports that a meeting between Mrs. Meir and President Nixon was contemplated. The Premier’s message was interpreted by officials here as implying a request that the President receive Foreign Minister Abba Eban who is attending the United Nations General Assembly sessions in New York.
Israeli leaders are growing increasingly uneasy over the delay in the administration’s response to Israel’s long standing request for more F-4 Phantoms and other military equipment. Officials said Mrs. Meir’s message also contained a statement of Israel’s options for a partial or overall settlement with the Arabs. Eban is expected to elucidate on the subject in detail when he addresses the General Assembly next Thursday.
