Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt said tonight that Israel’s expanding trade with Asian and African nations was “symptomatic of the great benefits that would ensue if its neighbors would take advantage of the offers of cooperation made by Israel and inaugurate a program of trade and commerce with her.” She addressed a dinner sponsored by the fraternal and landsmanshaften division of State of Israel Bonds at the Commodore Hotel, winding up the Spring campaign of the division for the sale of $750,000 of Israel bonds.
Mrs. Roosevelt declared that “after eleven years of remarkable accomplishments, Israel’s permanence is assured, a factor which it would be well for all to recognize.” If Israel’s neighbors would enter into a program of trade with her, Mrs. Roosevelt said, “the benefits to the entire Middle East would be incalculable. At the same time, this would contribute greatly to peace in that explosive area.”
