Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt was the recipient today of the Histadrut Humanitarian Award presented annually to a prominent American leader for services to Israel. The presentation was made at a luncheon at the Commodore Hotel. The award is a bronze plaque bearing a citation.
The award was given to Mrs. Roosevelt in appreciation of her “outstanding efforts in fostering sympathetic understanding between the people of the United States and the State of Israel and her warm encouragement of the cause of Histadrut. ” Previous recipients of the Histadrut award were President Truman, Vice-President Alben Barkley and Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas.
