The Municipal College of Antwerp decided today to cancel the showing of “The Deputy, ” the play by Rolf Hochhuth which charges that the late Pope Pius XII failed to speak out against the Nazi genocide.
The play, which was to have been shown here tonight, was performed in Brussels 10 days ago, when a number of incidents occurred and police arrested several demonstrators. Last night, however, the drama was performed in the Belgian town of La Louviere, without incident. Extra police were on hand inside and outside the theater, but were not called upon to intervene.
