A court in Coblenz has sentenced Stanislaus Szmari to die four times for four murders. Szmari, a smuggler was tried in 1921 for breaking into the house of the Jewish merchant Kocherl on the German-Polish border in the town of Prosna and killing the merchant Yakobowitch, his wife, sister and an 8-year-old boy.
Szmari escaped into Germany, adopted the name of Miller, and settled in the town of Vestun on the Rhineland. In 1928 he was recognized and arrested. At the trial, Mrs. Kocherl identified the murderer.
