The Supreme Court of New Jersey has ruled that Jewish candidates for the bar examinations to be held on Saturday, May 11th, will not be required to take the examination at that time, providing they file an affidavit setting forth their religious scruples against taking the test on Sabbath.
The test has been held on Friday in past years, but the large number of candidates for the May term examination made necessary a change to more spacious examination quarters, which will be available only on May 11. A later date will be set for the examination of all Jewish candidates filing the necessary affidavits.
Rabbi Issachar Levin of Trenton and Rabbi Charles I. Hoffman of Newark, were among those who appeared before the court to have the date of the examination changed.
