The United Nations Committee on Refugees and Displaced Persons was urged yesterday to create a special department for Jewish refugees and DP’s which would work in close consultation with representative Jewish organizations. The proposal was made in a memorandum submitted jointly by the World Jewish congress, the American Jewish Conference, and the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
The memorandum also asked that funds for resettlement of Jews be made available from unclaimed Jewish property in Europe. It pointed out that the majority of Europe’s Jews were either refugees or displaced persons and that these Jews wished to migrate to Palestine.
