A gift of $5,000 by Eugene Meyer, Jr., managing director of the Federal Farm Loan Board, $2,500 by Henry Seligman, $1,000 by Mrs. Henry Seligman and $2,500 by Morris Weinberg, Brooklyn banker, headed the contributions announced yesterday by the New York Allied Jewish Campaign, which is raising $2,500,000 in this city toward $6,000,000 which is being sought nationally for the 1930 budgets of the Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency for Palestine.
The first general workers’ rally of the campaign will take place today at four o’clock, at the Biltmore. It will be in the form of a tea. The exact total that has already been raised in the “drive” which began officially on June 27 will then be announced. Mr. Warburg and Mrs. Warburg, who is chairman of the Women’s Division of the campaign will be the hosts. Arthur Lehman, who is one of the honorary chairmen for New York; Mrs. Blanche E. Goldfarb, president of the Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations of Greater New York and George Jessel, well-known comic opera star, will speak. Other contributions announced yesterday were: $1,000 by Edward Friedman, Julius Nelson, John Polachek, Simon Rothschild, Arnstein Bros., Anonymous and Aaron Rabinowitz.
