The $22,500,000 campaign of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York for this year was launched last night. The goal is the largest in the Federation’s 46-year history. The campaign will continue through next January and will be conducted by 15,000 volunteer workers, Irving Mitchel Felt, president of Federation, said. Last year, he reported, the Federation’s agencies served more than 1,000,000 New Yorkers of various faiths and races.
Mayor Robert F. Wagner, addressing the campaign dinner, declared that both public and private welfare organizations must re-examine “the basic assumptions, methods and approaches now being pursued” to see whether “they cannot somehow be put together in a somewhat different pattern or applied in a different way to yield greater results.”
