For the first time since it was founded in 1917 the New York Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies passed the $5,000,000 mark in contributions pledged for maintenance needs of its ninety-one constituent institutions, Dudley D. Sicher, chairman of the business men’s council of the Federation, announced.
While the amount received in pledges has reached a new high figure, the Federation still faces a deficit of almost $300,000, which must be met before the end of the year, Mr. Sicher said. Intensive efforts are now being made by personal solicitation among the 134 industrial and professional groups, as only a few have oversubscribed their quotas.
Mr. Sicher stated that the New York Federation is the largest community chest in the country in the amount of money raised, the next largest being the Cleveland Community Fund.
