A total of $5,120,000 was raised for the economic development of Israel as a result of a dinner held tonight inaugurating the 1966 fall campaign of the Greater New York Committee for State of Israel Bonds. The dinner was a testimonial tribute to William Goldfine, president of the Royal National Bank of New York, who was presented with the Israel Bond Organization’s annual Herbert Lehman Israel Award.
The event formally opened an intensive effort to complete a drive to raise $20,000,000 by the end of the year through the mobilization of Israel Bond funds in New York City, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties. Principal speakers at the dinner were Ambassador James Roosevelt, U.S. representative to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and Samuel Rothberg, Israel Bond Organization campaign chairman.
