All was quiet yesterday on the troubled poultry kashruth front. Markets throughout the city, some under Kashruth Association supervision, others supervised by independent rabbis, were scenes of bustling activity as poultry was slaughtered in preparation for the Sabbath.
The Kashruth Association ban on all poultry not bearing the metal leg-bands of supervision by Association rabbis has sent about 150 market owners scurrying to sign contracts for Kashruth Association supervision, an official announced yesterday.
EXPERT ACTION ON REBELS
In the meantime, most of the large Bronx markets were being supervised by a group of three rabbis, headed by Raphael M. Barishansky, which signed a contract with the Live Poultry Institute of New York, wholesalers’ organization. The Kashruth Association is expected to take some action on this dissident group in the near future.
