The New York State Assembly unanimously passed a bill which will help remove any discrimination that Sabbath observing Jews may suffer in seeking employment with State or City agencies.
The bill, which was introduced by State Senator Paul Bookson, makes it illegal for any local state or city agency to refuse employment or promotion or to discharge any person on the grounds of his inability to work on certain days due to his religious observance, if he is willing to make up the lost time. The bill had previously unanimously passed the State Senate and is now in the hands of Governor Rockefeller for signature.
