Trowbridge Farm, a resort near Kyserike, N. Y., was ordered by the State Commission Against Discrimination this week-end to “cease and desist” using biased phrases in its promotional literature. The order included Mrs. Sylvia Trowbridge, owner of the farm resort.

A complaint against the farm had been filed with SCAD by Robert E. Sachs, a Jew. He told the commission that he had received in the mail a brochure from the farm, stating that the resort has been “serving Christian clientele since 1911.” Mr. Sachs said the phrase indicated to him that Jewish clientele was not solicited by the farm or desired by it.

In issuing its order, SCAD ruled the brochure violated the state law which prohibits distribution of material indicating bias in a place of public accommodation against persons belonging to a particular race, creed or color.
