Senator Walter J. Mahoney and Assemblyman Bernard Austin excused the introduction in the State Legislature of a bi-partisan bill which would make racial and religious discrimination by educational institutions unlawful and subject violators to various penalties and to the automatic loss of tax exemptions.

The new proposal is based largely on sociological and legal studies made by the American Jewish Congress. As the Legislature is scheduled to adjourn in less than three weeks, there appears to be little chance that the bill can be adopted at this session.
