The National Association of Manufacturers is sending 15 top corporate executives Nov. 16-27 to five Arab countries, but not to Jordan or Israel, to look for mutually beneficial commercial relations. Mary S. Yeber, speaking for NAM, said that the group’s steering committee for international economic affairs selected the five countries on the basis of the committee’s interest and of the participants who felt that they had specific interests in those countries.
NAM president E. Douglas Kenna will head the mission to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Iran and Algeria. The members have already met with ten Saudi Arabian delegates to the working group on industry of the U.S.-Saudi Joint commercial commission. The NAM announcement on the mission said it “has received strong encouragement from Treasury Secretary William R. Simon and other leading officials developing Joint U.S.-Saudi and U.S.-Egyptian commercial relations.” (By Joseph Polakoff)
