David A. Brown, chairman of the Palestine Emergency Fund, announced that Julius Rosenwald of Chicago had accepted the honorary chairmanship along with Nathan Strauss, Felix M. Warburg, Samuel Untermyer and Louis Marshall. Every effort will be made to raise as large a sum of money as possible for the relief of the Jews in Palestine. He announced that among the contributions received there was one of $10,000 from Samuel Untermyer.
Before his departure from London, Mr. Warburg cabled a subscription of $25,000 to the Emergency Fund.
The following contributions were also announced: Emiel Mosbacher, $5,000; United Jewish Organizations of Jersey City, $3,000; Boston Chapter of Hadassah, $2,000; Nathan S. Jonas, $1,000; Jewish Theatrical Guild of America, $1,000; Detroit Chapter of Hadassah, $1,000; M. Rothenberg, $1,000; Congregation Bnai Jessurum, $1,000; Judge and Mrs. Julian W. Mack, $500; Pincus Glicksman, $250; Jacob Klein, $100; Albert E. Kornfeld, $100; Samuel Kass, $100, and Mary I. Berger, $100.
Mr. Brown added that besides these contributions there were a large number of smaller contributions being received by every mail at nearly 100 banks in Greater New York. The following banks are receiving money for the fund: The Amalgamated Bank, The Broadway National Bank & Trust Co., Bank of United States, The Interstate Trust Company, Lefcourt-Normandie Bank, The Public National Bank, The Sterling National Bank, International Union Bank, The Merchants Bank, The American National Bank of Mt. Vernon.
Five theatres in Greater New York controlled by Warner Brothers, will give midnight performances next Tuesday, September 3, for the benefit of the Fund.
Nathan Goldberg, director of the Prospect Theatre and the Yiddish Theatre at Prospect and 161st Street, will give the receipts of six performances to the fund.
Palestinian Jews represented by five organizations met at 206 East Broadway, and pledged the sum of $10,000 to be raised for the emergency fund of the sufferers in Palestine.
A committee was appointed, headed by Rabbi M. Charlot of the Bronx Jewish Center and M. Moses Eliheh, secretary and treasurer of the organization.
A memorial meeting will be held next Wednesday night where all Palestinian Jews will come to pay tribute to those who died in Palestine.
FRATERNAL LODGES OF I.O.B.A. URGED TO CONTRIBUTE TO PALESTINE FUND
Former Congressman Nathan D. Perlman, president of the Independent Order Brith Abraham, a Jewish fraternal order with a membership of 110,000 throughout the United States, issued an urgent appeal to the lodges of the organization to make generous contributions toward the Palestine Emergency Fund. The appeal was made following his return from Washington as a member of the Jewish delegation.
