President Nasser of the United Arab Republic, making his first visit to a western country to attend the United Nations General Assembly, will stay in the United States at least a week and possibly longer, it was reported today from Cairo.
The longer visit would develop if African leaders at the General Assembly decide to hold their own “summit conference” at the UN, the report said. Arrangements were being made between the UAR, Yugoslavia and Afro-Asian officials on the date for a meeting of the heads of state in New York, the report revealed.
The report also said that before leaving for a first visit to Norway en route to New York, UAR Foreign Minister Mahmoud Fawzi said: “We want to have a hand in everything that goes on. International problems are no longer the monopoly of the Big Powers.”
