The State Department declined to comment today on a report reaching here that Egyptian Premier Abdel Gamal Nasser had notified the U.S. Ambassador in Cairo that Egypt and Syria will attack Israel on two fronts in the event of “any further Israel aggression.” The report quoted Col. Nasser as announcing that Egyptian representatives will deliver a memorandum with the same information to United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold.
At the same time, the State Department confirmed that U.S. Ambassador Henry A. Byroade had a long conversation in Cairo with Col. Nasser about the Israel-Syrian clash Reports from Cairo said that the Egyptian Premier had a similar conference today with the British Ambassador Sir Humphrey Trevelyan.
