For the third time, Nathan Straus gave $25,000 to the Palestine Emergency Fund. He had already given $50,000. In addition he presented to David A. Brown, chairman, $12,500 each from his two sons, Senator Nathan Straus, Jr., and Hugh Grant Straus. “My sons are away, but they have asked me to do this for them,” he stated. The contributions of the Straus family to the Palestine Emergency Fund now total $100,000.
Other contributions of $100 and over received at headquarters of the Palestine Emergency Fund Yesterday were $62,009.31, making the total for the day $111,009.31. The grand total of contributions of $100 and over up to yesterday was $607,718.90. These included a fourth remittance of $5,000 from the Philadelphia Committee, headed by Dr. Cyrus Adler.
In addition, L. Manuel Hendler, chairman of the Baltimore Committee reported yesterday that $30,000 in cash had been raised already in that city for the Palestine Emergency Fund. Besides the contributions of $100 and over which are being announced from day to day, Mr. Brown said that contributions below that sum already received will add at least $20,000 and the publishers of “The Day” had informed him that it has received over $10,000 for the fund. The fund is above $600,000, and Mr. Brown expressed the conviction that before the end of this week, it will be approaching the million dollar mark.
Mr. Brown stated that remittances of $50,000 daily to Palestine by the Palestine Emergency Fund would be resumed today. Last week a total of $250,000 was remitted.

men and children in Palestine have been rendered homeless and destitute, according to a cablegram from Colonel Frederick H. Kish of the Jewish Agency Executive, who is heading a Central Relief Committee which has been organized to relieve the distress caused by the Arab riots. Col. Kish acknowledges receipt of four remittances of $50,000 each from the Palestine Emergency Fund and states that besides substantial sums received from other countries for relief, Jews of Palestine have contributed $20,000.
Col. Kish’s cablegram, which is the first official report from him to the Palestine Emergency Fund, reads:

“Palestine Emergency Fund,
“111 Fifth Avenue, New York.
“Jerusalem, Sept. 6th.
“Your first, second, third and fourth remittances of fifty thousand each received. Central Relief Committee is gradually meeting the most urgent needs. So far the wounded, orphans, destitute children are being attended to. Refugees have received shelter, food and mattresses, and clothing, linen and $20,000 from local Palestinian Jews in addition to substantial sums from other countries. Central relief committee has obligated itself largely for food, transport and medical supplies. For shelter we have the free use of public buildings.
“The homeless number forty-two hundred souls, totally destitute, but the cost of their reconstruction cannot yet be estimated. The Jews of Palestine tender their gratitude to you and your committee for this timely, brotherly help and encouragement. We are doing everything possible to cope with the situation, confident of Jewry’s support.
“Kish-Jewish Agency.”
