Dr. Kaufman Kohler, President of the Hebrew Union College, celebrated his 80th anniversary yesterday. Hundreds of messages poured into his home at 2 West Eighty-eighth Street from rabbis and laymen all over the country.
Resolutions eulogizing him for his contributions to the Jewish thought in America came from the Board of Directors of the Hebrew Union College, the Faculty of the College, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, the New York Board of Ministers and the Central Conference of American Rabbis and others.
The formal celebration takes place tomorrow, which has been designated Kaufman Kohler Sabbath. Throughout the country rabbis will commemorate the event by preaching on Dr. Kohler and setting forth his ideals.
The Kaufman Kohler Eightieth Birthday Celebration Committee, which was organized by Ben Altheimer, is composed of representatives of the Hebrew Union College, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and Temple Beth-El.
