A nation-wide study of ethnic groups in the United States, to determine how they can broaden America’s knowledge of non-English languages, has been initiated by Dr. Joshua Fishman, dean of Yeshiva University’s Graduate School of Education, it was announced today by Dr. Samuel Belkin, president of the university.
The two-year study is supported by a $125,615 grant from the U.S. Office of Education, he said. The grant had been made to the University of Pennsylvania, where, until September 1, Dr. Fishman served as associate professor of human relations and psychology, and director of research of the Albert Greenfield Center for Human Relations. It was subcontracted to Yeshiva University, when Dr. Fishman assumed his duties as dean of the Graduate School of Education this fall.
