The opening guns in a nationwide campaign to enlist the direct participation of the Jewish masses of the United States in the work of preserving their rights and improving their status will be fired next Sunday at a special meeting of the national executive committee of the American Jewish Congress.
The meeting, at the Hotel Commodore, will bring together delegates from all sections of the country, who will give the signal for the organization of national elections for the American Jewish Congress and participation in the projected World Jewish Congress.
A discussion of the practical forms which this program of national elections will take, will be preceded by a presentation of the aims and purposes of the World Jewish Congress and the relation thereto of American Jewry.
A series of reports on the recent deliberations of the Geneva conference, where a World Jewish Congress in 1935 was decided upon, will be presented by leaders of the American delegation.
Speakers will include Dr. Stephen S. Wise, honorary president; Dr. Samuel Margoshes, vice-president; Professor Horace M. Kallen of the New School for Social Research; David Wertheim, secretary of the Poale Zeire Zion Party; and Dr. Joshua Goldberg, who will report on the Geneva conference.
The delegates will be welcomed by Bernard S. Deutsch, president of the Congress. Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, chairman of the national executive committee, will preside.
This session, beginning at 1:30 P.M., which will be open to the public, will be preceded by a closed morning session to be devoted to the planning of an extension of the program of the boycott against Nazi Germany.
