Responding to the findings of a national survey and the views of national Jewish leaders, delegates to the National Conference on Adult Jewish Education yesterday endorsed a National Council on Adult Jewish Education. The Conference considered major issues in the field of adult Jewish education at six concurrent workshops before concluding their sessions this evening.
The proposal to establish the Council was embodied in a resolution presented by Mrs. Joseph Cohen of New Orleans, vice-president of the American Association for Jewish Education. It was voted on by more than 300 delegates who represented 17 national Jewish agencies. The resolution read in part: “We commend the American Association for Jewish Education for establishing a National Council on Adult Jewish Education in order to provide a medium to exchange views, evaluate activities, and for such common planning as we may jointly agree upon.” The resolution, while not binding on the organizations attending, was regarded as the first concrete step in establishing a coordinating body in this field.
