More than 1,000 members of the New York section of the National Council of Jewish Women celebrated the 70th anniversary of the organization at a meeting here today. Representatives from the community paid tribute to the section for its 70 years of service to the people of New York City.
The national board of the NCJW met at the same time with the board of the Young Women’s Christian Association here, to consider four key areas in civil rights where women are making a major contribution. Both boards are meeting here this week and decided on a joint session, their first, to measure progress in areas of mutual concern in civil rights.
The four areas covered in the reports by national board members of the two women’s organizations were: integrated education, open housing, voter registration, and voluntary compliance with the new civil rights law, particularly the section on public accommodations.
