Dr. Samuel Dinin of the New York Teachers Institute today demanded that nationalism rather than religion be made the “integrating factor” in modern Jewish life. Dr. Dinin spoke at a joint session of three Jewish social service and education associations, at the Hotel St. Charles.
“What we must do,” declared Dr. Dinin, “is cultivate together as many of the elements which make for a people’s nationality as possible. The first task is obviously to get all Jews-or as many as desire it-together in some community organization which can include all of them. The second is to get a common unifying center-Palestine. The third is to cultivate a common language, which can serve as a universal means of communication and expression. The fourth is to provide a comprehensive system of education, recreation and community living which will expose young and old to the best and widest possible Jewish culture and render it possible for them to learn and experience creatively as much Jewish culture as possible.”
