–Opposition to the British rule in Transjordania. a part of the territory under Great Britain’s administration according to the Palestine Mandate, was expressed by a conference of Arab nationalist leaders which was concluded yesterday at Amman. One hundred and fifty delegates participated.
The resolution adopted demands complete independence for Transjordania. Although the Transjordanians are willing to recognize the mandate this recognition is to be limited only insofar as it imposes upon Great Britain the duty to render to the government of Transjordania technical assistance. The provisions of the Balfour Declaration are rejected. A government responsible to a parliament chosen in free elections should be established. The government should abstain from financing any foreign force in the country the resolution demands.
Emir Abdullah, ruler of the territory with the cooperation of the British, refused to receive a deputation representing the conference.
Rabbi Edgar F. Magnin of Los Angeles. newly-elected grand president of District Grand Lodge No 4 of the B’nai Brith called his first meeting of the general committee recently to discuss many plans for the year’s activities in the western states.
It is planned to make this a year of intense activity within the lodges, Dr. Magnin stated.
