Leaders in all walks of life, headed by President Roosevelt and members of the Cabinet, joined yesterday in felicitating Prof. Franz Boas of Columbia University, dean of American anthropologists, on his 81st birthday. Messages from the president, Agriculture Secretary Henry A. Wallace, Interior Secretary Harold L. Ickes and 136 public officials, noted scientists including Prof. Albert Einstein, writers and educators, praised Prof. Boas for his leadership in efforts to make science serve humanity. Prof. Boas is founder and national chairman of the American Committee for Democracy and Intellectual Freedom and honorary chairman of the Council for Pan American Democracy.
