The Polish proposal to the League of Nations to generalize the minorities treaties by applying them to all members of the League and to call an international conference on the subject came up for discussion today by the Sixth Commission and to the obvious amazement of the representatives of the great powers the project received wide support from the various delegations.
Taken aback by the amount of support Poland was receiving, representatives of the great powers withdrew their names from the list of speakers for today and decided to speak tomorrow, when debate on the subject will be resumed.
The Polish viewpoint was placed before the commission by Jan Raccynski, who began by declaring that his government has no intention of raising a new discussion with the League Assembly on the declaration made by Colonel Josef Beck, and that the Beck statement “was not within the competence of the Assembly.”
