The nationwide observance of Jewish Book Month opened today in some 400 communities under the auspices of the Jewish Book Council of America, sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board. Close to 2,000 Jewish groups, including community centers, schools and synagogues, will participate in the program through lectures, seminars, symposia, discussions, essay and declamation contests, pageants, book fairs, radio and television programs and book exhibits.
Jewish Book Month will also be noted this year in Latin America and Europe. Anniversaries commemorating great Jewish writers, scholars, poets and early Zionist leaders will he marked during Jewish Book Month, while Jewish Book Sabbath will be noted in the synagogues of America on Dec. 3.
