As an example of the relentless hunt going on in Palestine for immigrants in the country illegally, five Iraqian Jews informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that they were arrested while walking on the street in a group. They were taken to a police station and ordered to produce their
passports on the ground that they were suspected of being illegal immigrants. Four proved residence in Palestine ranging from one and a half to seven years. The fifth man was born in Jerusalem.
The entire group was immediately released with apologies from the police. One of the men own a shop next door to the police station. While they were being examined another shouted, “why don’t you examine the thousands of Arabs who are coming in from Transjordania.”
