Defense Minister Shimon Peres informed the Cabinet yesterday that Israel would be unable to participate in the international naval and maritime display in New York harbor next month because it could not afford the cost. He said that Israel could spare only two naval vessels because of security needs for the American Bicentennial event, but the overall cost of sending them would amount to IL 2.5 million. Therefore, he regretfully decided against Israel’s participation, Peres said.
