United States sailors taking part in next month’s New Orleans Mardi Gras festival have been ordered by the Navy “to comply with the policy of discrimination against Negroes, Jews and Italians adhered to by many of the carnival balls,” it was reported here today.

The Navy Department issued a directive stating to Navy personnel: “Whether or not this meets with your personal or official approval, it is the way things are, and we have to go along with it.”
