Maj. Gen. Otto Ohlendorf, commander of a Nazi task force which murdered over 1,000,000 Jews and other “racially inferior” peoples during a two-year period, admitted the massacres on the witness stand today.
He insisted, however, that Jews killed in Eastern Europe were politically partisan and therefore dangerous. Ohlendorf was the first of the defendants to take the stand as the defense opened its case.
