Confiscation of the CV-Zeitung, official organ of the Central Verein of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, reported Friday in Der Angriff, Nazi propaganda newspaper, was officially confirmed yesterday.
In reporting the confiscation, which was at the time unknown to Central Verein officials, Der Angriff declared that an article in which the CV-Zeitung compared the condition of Germany after the Versailles treaty with that of the Jews in Germany today was an attack upon Hitler, albeit a veiled one. To substantiate its argument the Angriff quoted the CV-Zeitung as having said that Berlin was called upon to curse the Jews, but since God willed otherwise Balaam blessed them.
The official communication concerning the incident declared that the “Balaam gloss contained veiled attacks.”
