Although the Brazilian government this week closed down the anti-Nazi Allianca Nacional Libertadore organization, no obstacles were placed today in the way of the opening of the Congress of the Integralists—the Nazi organization of Brazil—in Rio de Janeiro.
Anti-Jewish propaganda conducted by the Integralists in Brazil reached its height today when numerous speakers in public addresses threatened “to get even with the Jews in Brazil.” The speakers accused the Jews of being guilty of causing the crisis which is now taking place in Brazil, as well as throughout the world.
Signor Miguel Reale, the leader of the Integralists in Minas Province, in a venomous anti-Jewish speech, threatened the Jewish population of the province on the ground that it was responsible for the liberal movement in the country. He was particularly furious because the Jews are combatting the Integralists.
Despite the fact that the law prohibits the existence of uniformed organizations, the delegates at the Integralist Congress in Brazil appeared today in their green-shirt uniforms. The law banning the wearing of uniforms was adopted in the Chamber of Deputies last April. It provides for a maximum of three years imprisonment for anyone associating himself with a uniformed organization. A similar penalty is proscribed for conducting inciting propaganda against any part of the population.
