Settlement of the long-disputed question of whether the swastika should be permitted at German celebrations here is being sought in a poll to be taken of members of the Federation of German societies.
The balloting, scheduled for July 13, will determine whether the Nazi emblem is to be displayed at the annual “German Day” events on July 27 and 28 in Washington park. The poll was decided upon as an answer to claims by pro-Nazis that Milwaukee Germans wanted the swastika exhibited. Last year the Federation refused to sanction the Hitler flag. Defeat of the Nazi adherents was forecast today by leaders of established German societies. The Steuben society, among others, has denounced the Nazi flag and has insisted that only the American flag be flown.
