Major Gen. T. Boettcher, Gestapo commandant in the Radom district of Poland from 1942-45, was sentenced to hang today by the Radom district court for directing the massacre of 380,000 Jews and 85,000 Poles during the war. The Nazi general sent more than 160,000 of his victims to forced labor camps in Germany.
A spokesman for the Jewish Historical Institute said at the trial that only 20,000 of a prewar total of 400,000 Jews in the Radom area survived the war. Many Jewish witnesses were called to present evidence during the ten-day trial.
