SEVEN NAZI JOURNALISTS WERE SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT FROM TWENTY TO EIGHTY DAYS BY A COPENHAGEN COURT TODAY FOR PRINTING MALICIOUS ACCUSATIONS AGAINST THE JEWS. THEY WERE CONVICTED UNDER A LAW WHICH PROHIBITS THE DEFAMING OF ANY RELIGION RECOGNIZED BY THE STATE.
THE SECOND OF THE TRIALS CLOSED SATURDAY. THE LEOPOLD-LOEB MURDER CASE IN CHICAGO WAS RAISED BY V. JENSEN, EDITOR OF THE NEWSPAPER, STORMEN, IN AN ARTICLE ENTITLED “MURDER”
WHICH FORMS THE BASIS OF THE CHARGE AGAINST HIM. THE ARTICLE ATTACKS THE JEWISH RELIGION AND ACCUSES ALL THE JEWS OF LUST FOR MURDER AND OTHER CRIMES.
COUNSEL FOR JENSEN QUOTED FROM THE PENTATEUCH TO SUPPORT ANTI-JEWISH CHARGES. THE STORY OF JOSEPH, HE CLAIMED, PROVED JEWISH DECEITFULNESS. HE ALSO CITED NAZI PUBLICATIONS ATTRIBUTING A LUST FOR MURDER TO THE JEWS.
CROWN PROSECUTOR BACH SAID THE ATTORNEY WAS QUOTING FROM OBSCURE PUBLICATIONS WHOSE ASSERTIONS IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SUBSTANTIATE.
