The American Army in Germany has turned over to the Polish Government for trial as a war criminal the notorious Gestapo leader Wilhelm Schmidsiefen, who was responsible for the liquidation of the Lodz ghetto.
At Himmler’s behest, Schmidsiefen was later sent to Hungary where he established several concentration camps for Jews and subsequently directed their transfer to Poland where they were murdered in Oswiecim and other camps.
